[Objective]: The objective of this study was to observe the clinical efficacy of ultrasound-guided intra-articular injection of hypertonic glucose in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis (KOA) and explore its mechanism. [Methods]: 56 patients with KOA were injected with Hypertonic dextrose (20%) 8 ml into the suprapatellar bursa under the guidance of ultrasound, once every 2 weeks for three times. The changes of VAS score, WOMAC index and 40 m walking time were observed before treatment and 2, 4, 8 weeks after treatment. [Results]: The VAS score, WOMAC index and 40 m walking time of KOA patients at 2, 4 and 8 weeks after treatment were significantly lower than those before treatment (P < 0.05), the difference was statistically significant. [Conclusion]: Ultrasound-guided intra-articular injection of hypertonic glucose can effectively relieve pain and improve knee joint function in patients with KOA. It can be a safe and effective method for clinical treatment of knee osteoarthritis pain.
