In the central nervous system, the midbrain dopaminergic system as the main aggregation of do-paminergic neurons, its release of the excitatory neurotransmitter dopamine has been extensively studied, where abnormal release of dopamine can lead to addictive behaviors as well as the pro-duction of certain neurological diseases. This review focuses on the research progress of the do-paminergic system of the midbrain, including dopamine and receptors, electrophysiological proper-ties of dopamine, ventral tegmental area, and substantia nigra. The midbrain dopaminergic system is crucial for the study of neurological diseases throughout the central nervous system, and is the significance of this review.

In the central nervous system, the midbrain dopaminergic system as the main aggregation of dopaminergic neurons, its release of the excitatory neurotransmitter dopamine has been extensively studied, where abnormal release of dopamine can lead to addictive behaviors as well as the production of certain neurological diseases. This review focuses on the research progress of the dopaminergic system of the midbrain, including dopamine and receptors, electrophysiological properties of dopamine, ventral tegmental area, and substantia nigra. The midbrain dopaminergic system is crucial for the study of neurological diseases throughout the central nervous system, and is the significance of this review.
